Correlation between rainfall and dust occurrence at Mildura, Australia : the difference between local and source area rainfalls
The AA. use dust records at Mildura, Australia along with observed wind directions during dust storms and events and both local and regional source area rainfall for the period 1960-1989 to test the adequacy of using local rainfall and to show
the improvement that could be achieved by using regional rainfall in the likely dust source area.
Regional innovation policy. Case-studies from the Ruhr area, Baden-Württemberg and the North East of England
The main objective of this study is to identify, compare and monitor the latest trends in regional innovation policies and initiatives to restructure and stimulate the regional economy in two old industrial areas, namely the Ruhr area and the North
A study of the recreational activity in the surrounding of Miskolc, NE Hungary. The characteristics of private-plot recreation facilities were revealed by a questionnaire survey. On the basis of this survey the sample areas were typified. - (JS)

The general coincidence between lithology and landform indicates that little tectonic deformation has occurred in the study area since the Permian. This suggests that the earstern highlands in the area may have been formed by the denudation
of a Paleozoic highland. Other events that occurred outside the study area, however, may also have affected the eastern highlands in the region.
Morphostructural relationships in the Lembang fault area, West Java, Indonesia
with the structural development of the area. The study is based on interpretation of stereoscopic panchromatic SPOT imagery and air photos, and on field checks carried out in 1988 and 1989.
SPOT satellite images from the dune fields reveal areas of poor vegetation and even areas without vegetation within a more or less non-influenced vegetation cover. Causes for the absence of vegetation are overgrazing and agriculture arranged
in a circle around the villages. Damage is done to a varying extent. Potentially the less damaged areas may recover.

The paleoclimatological and geological evolution of the northern Negev desert in the late Pleistocene is analysed on the basis of data obtained on present-day geomorphic processes in arid rocky and sandy areas. The study is relevant to the problem
of the impact of climatic change in semi-arid and arid areas. The study focuses on the case of a change from drier to wetter conditions, a transition which was accompanied by loess penetration into the northern Negev desert.

The cuesta landscape has been analysed in the border area of the Upper B'obr River drainage basin and the Upper Ścinawka Kłodzka River drainage basin. Thanks to differentiations within the monoclinal basement of the area, it was possible to observe
the structural control of relief forms and influence of the structure on the evolution of those forms. On the other hand, the localisation of the study area in the border zone of two different drainage basins makes it possible to analyse the influence

The present work shows that GIS have an important role to play in land use monitoring, land degradation and erosion studies in the Albudeite catchment, S.E. Spain. A land use classification of the area was obtained by air-photo interpretation (1957
and 1986). An erosion risk map of the area was also produced by combining land use, gully density and slope data using the GIS.

This study provides a classification of the depression areas of Hungary on a historical base, and suggests several methods of handling the economic crisis in these areas. - (JS)
