A total of 118 of agricultural soil and 43 of vegetable samples were collected from Dongguan City, Guangdong, China. The spatial distribution, sources, accumulation characteristics and potential risk of heavy metals in the agricultural soils
and vegetables were depicted in details by 3 different approaches, including total contents of eight metal elements in soils and vegetables, GIS maps and multivariate analysis of heavy metals in soils in the study. The results show that there are higher
accumulation of heavy metals in agricultural soils. It is necessary to focus on potential risk of heavy metals for food safety and human’s health from agricultural soils and vegetables in Dongguan City.

In this study, some geochemical properties, major elements and trace metals of sediments from a river, an estuary and a lake were researched in the Yangtze River Delta plain—a fluvial plain. The heavy metal contamination levels were evaluated
by enrichment factors. Among heavy metals, Cd and Pb revealed the highest risks for sediments. The results of primary component analysis and cluster analysis showed that the metal speciation was associated with sediment sources and components. It is apparent
that the metal contaminations are associated with sediment sources which significantly influence the geochemical properties of sediments in the different aquatic environments of the Yangtze River Delta plain.

The present study deals with the geochemical fractions of nine heavy metals [chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb)] present on the river sediments using sequential
extraction process (SEP) and total acid digestion (TAD). This work was conducted on Ganga river sediments at Varanasi. Various sources of the metal pollution in the city include domestic, industrial and agricultural untreated wastewater draining
into the river. Geochemical fractions of the metals–pH relation study, using Medusa Hydra chemical equilibrium software, revealed the presence of different species of metals at different pHs.

metals (Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Ba, Mn and V) in the fresh flood SWD were determined. Enrichment Factor (EF) and Index of Geoaccumulation (Igeo) were employed for heavy metal assessment. It is highlighted that the source of Co, Cr, Ba and V is mainly from
anthropogenic inputs, but the source of Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn and Mn is mixed from natural and anthropogenic inputs. Concentration of heavy metals in the downstream of Ankang city is higher than that in the upstream. These results would help to establish non-point
sources of heavy metal pollution and provide important information for water conservation strategy during the great flood periods in the upper Hanjiang River basin.

From sediment samples collected in the lower reach of Changjiang River (from Nanjing to Shanghai), the AA. examine the correlation between heavy metals and geochemical indices, including Fe2O3, Al2O3, total organic carbon (TOC) and black carbon (BC
), as well as magnetic susceptibility (MS). Using these indices they investigate the contamination characteristics of heavy metals in the sediments with Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results indicate that the combination of geochemical
and multivariable statistical methods clearly characterizes the geochemistry of heavy metals in sediment of the lower reaches of the Changjiang River and suggests that power plants are the main source of heavy metal pollution.

The concentrations of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn in both surface water and sediment samples from the upper Tigris River were determined to evaluate the level of contamination. All metal
concentrations in water samples, except Cu, were lower than the maximum permitted concentration for the protection of aquatic life. TN, TP and metal concentrations in sediment samples from the first three sites situated downstream of Ergani Copper Mine Plant were
much higher than those at other sites. There was a significant decrease in the concentrations of heavy metals in sediment from the last site downstream of the Dicle Dam. Cluster analysis suggests that As, Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn are derived from
anthropogenic sources, particularly metallic discharges of the copper mine plant.

The environmental quality of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, As, Hg) in agricultural surface soil of Chongming Island was assessed by national, local and professional standards based on a large scale investigation, in which 28 samples from vegetable plots
, 65 samples from paddy fields and 9 samples from watermelon fields were collected from whole island area. The results indicated that most of agricultural soil quality was good. Crop straw burning was the important source of heavy metals of atmospheric
deposition, and atmospheric deposition contributed a lot to heavy metals in agricultural soil in Chongming Island.

In this study, 8 sampling sites were selected to collect the bed sand samples along the mainstream of the Mekong River. In addition, the contents of 5 heavy metal elements and their spatial variability along the mainstream of the river were analyzed
ecological risk of heavy metals in the mainstream of the Mekong River is low. The AA. argue that the pollution of water and contamination of heavy metals in bed sediment caused by mining of mineral resources or geochemical background values in the Mekong
