Five mountain ranges were chosen for a numerical determination of exposure differences for vegetation as well as for the determination of altitudinal limits of periglacial landforms (Northern Tian Shan, Southern and Central Tian Shan, Western Kunlun
Permafrost changes in the northern Tien Shan during the Holocene
Cryoturbation ; Holocene ; Kazakhstan ; Mountain ; Palaeogeomorphology ; Periglacial features ; Permafrost ; Soil temperature ; Sounding ; Thermal anomaly ; Tien Shan
Mise
Pedosequences in Northern Tien Shan Mountain belt (Kazakhstan Kirgizstan)
Catena ; Kazakhstan ; Kyrgyzstan ; Mountain ; Pedogenesis ; Soil ; Tien Shan ; Vegetation
Late Quaternary tectonic movements of the Vakhsh nappe at the Pamirs - Tian-Shan Mts. conjunction zone
Asia ; Former USSR ; Geomorphology ; Neotectonics ; Orogeny ; Pamir ; Quaternary ; Regional geology ; Slope dynamics ; Soviet Central Asia ; Structural geomorphology ; Tien Shan
Some geomorphological features of late Quaternary tectonic movements at the contact zone between Northern Pamirs and Southern Tian-Shan Mts. are demonstrated. The part of the Alpine - Himalayan orogenic belt form the Vakhsh nappe. - (MS)
Some observations of the morphotectonic activity in the Pamir and the Tian-Shan
Asia ; Cenozoic ; Fault ; Former USSR ; Geomorphogenesis ; Mountain ; Neotectonics ; Orogeny ; Pamir ; Quaternary ; Slope dynamics ; Soviet Central Asia ; Tien Shan
The morphostructural development of the Pamir and Tian-Shan mountains in the Cenozoic Era is presented. Some observations of their Late Quaternary and present-day relief changes which give evidence on the style and dynamics of recent orogeny
Sub-debris melt rates on southern Inylchek Glacier, Central Tian Shan
Air temperature ; Glacial ablation ; Glacier ; Kyrgyzstan ; Meltwater ; Moraine ; Tien Shan ; Water resources
This paper presents results from southern Inylchek Glacier in the highly continental central Tian Shan, where sub-debris ablation was measured with stakes and simulated using air temperature and water vapour pressure. Parallel observations of air

On the cause of glacier mass balance variations in the Tian Shan Mountains
Altitude ; Asia ; Central Asia ; Climatic variation ; Glacier ; Glacier mass balance ; Model ; Tien Shan
Results of the special field observations undertaken to study asynchronous changes in mass balance on the glaciers of the Tian Shan. The programme used an imitation model of the mass balance monitoring (Dyurgerov 1988). It was established
that the asynchronous changes in mass balance were primarily due to the increase of summer snow accumulation eastward the Tian Shan. The second reason was the difference in the altitudinal position of the glaciers.
