Three boundary layer models are applied to a wind energy siting investigation in the Saldanha Bay area. The different models were then tested and results compared. Favourable results were obtained for further development of the models. - (AJC)

A prototype two-dimensional finite element flow model for depth-averaged free surface flows is developed for floodplain environments. Preliminary model results indicate that this modelling approach can be used to identify dynamic variations
This paper presents the second part of an exploration of the application of developments made in hydraulic floodplain modelling to ungauged flood forecasting. A two dimensional finite element model, RMA-2, is applied to a 25 km floodplain reach
This paper reviews the commonly available models used to model landslides. The main purpose is then to examine some of the wider issues associated with the developments that are required if we are to develop 3-D applications and to extrapolate
their use to long time scales. The paper does not discuss landslide hazard mapping models but concentrates on the 3-D and temporal problems associated with the modelling of single slides.

The AA. present an interdisciplinary study on data and modeling intercomparison, concerning the possible existence of a Tibetan ice sheet and its climatological implications during the ice age.
Consideration of the available equations for prediction of aeolian sand transport led to the development of a model which relies on optimization techniques for the production of improved performance. The model has been applied

This paper provides a review of permafrost modelling advances, primarily since the 2003 permafrost conference in Zürich, Switzerland, with an emphasis on spatial permafrost models, in both arctic and high mountain environments. Models
of permafrost thermal models within spatial models, application of transient numerical thermal models within spatial models and incorporation of permafrost directly within global circulation model (GCM) land surface schemes.
