Linking hydrology and biogeochemistry in complex landscapes
in ecology and geomorphology; the degree of functional connectedness between different landscape elements provides the key theme. Following a review of hillslope hydrology, links between hillslope runoff pathways and nutrient dynamics are then considered
This review seeks to examine connections between hydrology and biogeochemistry at the landscape scale. A review of research on landscape structure and organization provides a context for what follows, and seeks to integrate work at relevant scales
. The AA. focus in particular on riparian zones, where nutrient dynamics has relevance for water-quality management in catchments.
The holon : hierarchy theory and landscape research in Geomorphological models. Theoretical and empirical aspects.
This paper considers the processes of self organisation in soil dynamics. It examines interactions between levels in the landscape holarchy . These are evaluated in terms of scale, communication, stability and evolution in a fluctuating energy

qualitative analyses, which enable the study of meanings and social concepts of landscape, the mechanisms of comprehending landscape and its variation, as well as landscapedynamics. This article presents the study of landscape using an analysis of literary
In the last decades, the belief that landscape is not merely a material reality, but also a social and cultural document in which people play a key role, has come to the forefront. Standard landscape analyses have thus had to be improved through

Regional agricultural landscape pattern changes along the Yellow River in Henan Province from 1987 to 2002

In this study, the AA. reconstructed the former landscape structure and elucidated the changes in landscape patterns during a period of about 15 years. Two sets of maps were used : a landsat-5 TM image (1987) and landsat-7 ETM image (2002
). The frequency index, landscape diversity index and landscape fragmentation index were calculated for analyses. The AA. combined the quantitative calculations of the landscape structure and GIS spatial analysis to analyze the impacts of human activities
Hummocky moraine landscape on Jaeren, SW Norway - implications for glacier dynamics during the last deglaciation
In this paper, the main focus is on the part of the hummocky landscape situated above 200 m a.s.l., called the central hummocky area. The morphological and sedimentological observations in the area, and their implications for the understanding
of glacio-dynamics and retreat pattern during the last deglaciation are discussed.
Driving factors of forest landscape change in Yiluo River basin

In this study, the AA. reconstruct the former forest landscape structure and elucidate the landscape change during a period of about 15 years. Three sets (1987, 1996 and 2002) of maps derived from Landsat-5 images were used for analyses. The results
show that there was a decrease in the area from 1987 to 2002. The forest landscape conversion in this region is largely explained by elevation, slope and proximity to village.
Robert West's cultural geography of the Modern Tarascan Area, 1948, documented the cultural and physical geography of the Sierra Tarasa (Purépecha). A selection of landscape photographs from this work, and from some of his subsequent trips
to the region, serve as a baseline for documenting landscape change over the last 50 years. AA. find that there has been significant urbanization, but also forest regrowth, especially of urban forests that are wither shrubby or selectively cut. - (SLD)
This paper describes the results of detailed surveys for the landscape systems (landforms, vegetation, topsoils and snow cover duration) of a nivation hollow in northern Japan and discusses their evolution in the Holocene epoch. The nivation hollow
studied consists of 3 concentric zones whose landscapes and historical development are different. Landscape evolution of the hollow is reconstructed since the late glacial period. Attention is directed toward the timings of slope stabilization
Effects of depopulation, farm family income and changes in agricultural practices, etc. have resulted in the abandonment or destruction of traditional mountainous landscapes. An image-based stated choice survey was applied to explore the effects
of various landscape change processes on the preferences of a mostly urban sample (N = 410). The 128 digitally generated landscape scenarios represented various kinds and intensities of agricultural and tourism use of a historic terraced area in Austria
. Latent class segmentations identified four segments, with different preferences for natural, managerial and social landscape features. While a preference for a more complex, mysterious and natural landscape was found for three segments, one segment
preferred more open landscapes. The results indicate that landscape change can affect humans in different ways, and that evolutionary and cultural preference theories are useful in explaining landscape preferences.

Based on the information from forest resources distribution maps of Luoning County of 1983 and 1999, 6 indices were used to analyze spatial patterns and dynamics of forest landscapes of the typical region in the middle of the Yihe-Luohe river basin

The main aim of this review is to investigate and summarize the methods and applications of land cover spatial pattern using 3 or more image dates. The potential and the limitations of landscape pattern indices are identified and discussed to inform
application recommendations. The second aim of this review is to make recommendations including appropriate landscape pattern indices, for the application of landscape pattern analysis of a long time series of remotely sensed data to a case study involving

Based on historical data and remote sensing data, 6 indexes including patch number, patch area, landscape dominance index, fractal dimension, patch density and connectivity index etc. were used to analyze landscape pattern dynamics of water body
This paper briefly surveys landscape evolution theories with respect to the implications for changes in relief amplitude. Then a theoretical framework is presented that explicitly links changes in differences in elevation over time in a landscape
