Topographical effects on the equilibrium-line altitude on glaciers
The most useful parameter to quantify the climatic effects on a glacier is the equilibrium-line altitude (ELA) : a line on the glacier where accumulation equals ablation. In this paper, the topographical and morphological effects on the ELA
The genesis of quaternary landscapes with stone-lines
Noninferior bandwidth line simplification : algorithm and structural analysis
This paper presents a noninferior simplification algorithm that produces an optimal caricature of an encoded line with respect to the bandwidth criterion that all deleted points must be within a prespecified distance of the simplified line. Results
Grazing history affects the tree-line ecotone : a case study from Hardanger, Western Norway
Climatic change ; Ecosystem ; Ecotone ; Forest ; Historical geography ; Mountain ; Norway ; Pastureland ; Tree line
This study compares the tree and ground cover of 2 localities having different grazing histories in the tree-line ecotone of Western Norway. Data from the sampling of trees, saplings, seedlings and ground cover, tree age determinations, aerial
photographs, interviews and literature research are used. The results show differences in the structure of the tree-line ecotone with regard to tree-age, height, circumference and the structure of the understory. Ground cover differs in species composition
, mainly with regard to light preferences. Together, the differences stress the importance of site history consideration in order to understand changes in the tree-line ecotone, because dissimilar site histories may create differing local responses
On-line dangers ? : geographies of parents' fears for children's safety in cyberspace
Cet article explore les peurs des parents concernant les dangers courus par les enfants en relation avec les technologies de l'information et de la communication dans l'espace du on-line (cyberespace).
Vyznam nakladni potrubni dopravy.
(Base line inferometry by means of artificial satellites a revolution in geodesy?)
On the strength of its accuracy and efficiency base line interferometry by means of satellite-born transmitters is able to change the technology system decisively. Account of conclusions for the establishment of arrays of control points, large-scale
A morphotectonic map of the northern Arava in Israel, derived from isobase lines
or dislocation lines derived by analysing deviations in the directions of isobase lines, of their spreading or compression and of deviations between axes of valleys. The morphotectonic map presented in this paper portrays several major morphostructural units
A decade of tree-line monitoring in the southern Swedish Scandes in Climatological extremes in the mountains, Physical background, geomorphological and ecological consequences.
Results from long-term tree-line monitoring, based on repeat photography from fixed photopoints, are presented. The tree-line studied is a broad ecotone with sparse and mixed populations of Betula pubescens ssp. tortuosa, Picea abies and Pinus
Glacial morphology and snow-lines of younger Quaternary around the Yari-Hotaka Mountain range, northern Alps, central Japan
In this paper, the authors attempt to elucidate the glacial geomorphology to clarify the ages of glacial stages by correlating with some glacial stages in other areas, to study some problems of snow-line reconstruction, and to reconstruct the change
of the altitude of snow-line using geomorphological and meteorological data. (L'A.).
A real gray tone symbols produced on standard line printers seldom adhere to acceptable cartographic design standards. The recent development of matrix line printers provides an alternative means of producing more effective map symbolization
Comparaison de deux simulations: l'une suivant un modèle de bruit gaussien fractionnaire et l'autre, un modèle de ligne brisée (broken line), à l'aide des séries enregistrées pour 14cours d'eau australiens. Le modèle de ligne brisée est
