Some geographical implications of foreign investment in the semiperiphery: the case of Australia
This paper addresses Wallerstein's concept of the existence of a group of semiperipheral countries as a distinctive segment of the world-system economy. The first section of the paper considers flows of investment into and out of Australia
. In the final two sections the implications of these flows within the Australian space economy are considered by reference to a case study of the pattern of investment of the largest foreign-owned group in the country and a study of the continuing polarization
