Since 1973 geologists from the GDR have been involved in geologic activities in Antarctica included in the SCAR program. As participants of Soviet Antarctic expeditions they have generally dealt with problems of structural geology in selected
Antarctic areas of the East Antarctic platform. In the following the most important results are summerized. (HL).
Slopewash, surface runoff and fine-litter transport in forest and landslide scars in humid-tropical steeplands, Luquillo Experimental Forest, Puerto Rico
, where little geomorphic research has been done. The relation between rainfall, surface runoff and slopewash rates are studied.
. Such a complex wind regime leads to the development of star and reversing dunes and is accurately predicted by atmospheric models on a regional and local scale. Signs of activity in the form of grainflow scars are also noted over the slip faces of many dunes

This paper describes the fire history of the Battell Research Forest (BRF), in Vermont, recorded by the age distributions of living and dead trees and by fire scars. The results illustrate a fire cycle that has controlled the recruitment
