The study area is the Missisquoi River basin which straddles the Québec/Vermont border and which was severely affected in the 1993, 1997, and 2002 floods. This study identifies the multiscale atmospheric and orographic factors most conductive
to heavy precipitation and flooding. An empirical/hydrometeorological approach was applied in conjunction with basin scale topography within a Geographic Information System. The impacts of flooding were exacerbated by anthropogenic influences.
