The study area extends across eastern Bavaria and Upper Austria and is situated between the margin of the Würmian moraines of the Inn glacier near Gars and the rim of the Bohemian Massif downstream Schärding. Between Gars and Schärding a flight
of fluvial terraces is developed along the Inn. These terraces, which date from the late Pleistocene to the early Holocene, are incised in the Wüum floodpain, the lower terrace. The mapping of the fluvial terraces was the first main goal of this thesis
. A second aim was to establish numerical ages for the terraces in question. A third goal was to correlate the phases of geomorphodynamic activity in the Inn valley, of which the fluvial terraces give evidence, with those that were dated in other catchments
