This paper aims to define the role of Geomorphology in the assessment of the impact of human activities on the environment. Environmental impact assessment (EIA) should be carried out for specific projects, in order to evaluate their suitability
for the quality of the environment. The relationships between humans and environment are taken into account, with particular attention to the effects of a project on the geomorphological environment. Examples of different are presented.

Human activiy has affected the landscapes of karstic areas of the British Isles since the Mesolithic. Six main categories of humanimpact on limestone areas are considered in detail: ground-subsidence related; water related; quarrying; surface stone
removal; damage or movement; cave damage; and indirect impact. Examples are taken from both the United Kingdom and Ireland, in a range of ages and types of limestone from the Cambrian to the Cretaceous.

This paper explains why limestone is such an important commodity, examines the technique by which it is excavated, the geomorphological impacts of those techniques, and describes how such impacts may be minimised. It is based largely on research
in Britain. Quarrying may also impact on karst water resources, particularly where excavation takes place beneath the water table, but these impacts tend to be site specific whilst te geomorphological impacts are more general.

The collection of essays in this volume sets out explicitely to achieve an international perspective, as a step towards gaining a more global and generalized understanding of humanimpact on karst. Much remains to be accomplished on this topic
. This volume focuses on impacts. In future more attention must be given to solutions.
Carbonate and evaporite karsts cover a large proportion of western Ukraine. Different human activities produce multivarious and strong impacts on karst which entail various consequences in different environments. These are considered with special

Les recherches ont montré que les chenaux et les plaines alluviales des cours d'eau des Nouvelles Galles du Sud sont très instables. La cause en est l'impact des activités humaines, les crues catastrophiques et les régimes hydrologiques alternés

Coastal resource management strategies sometimes fail when they do not integrate development impacts into the existing ad hoc approach to coastal management. This paper outlines a set of strategies coastal developers may take when confronted
by the need for change. Because a development and its coastal impact area constitute a connected system, the promotive strategy sees the development-impact area as interdependent. Such a strategy can turn impacts into an expansion of developer concern
by promoting coastal impacts as a new pathway to greater coastal conservation and management opportunities.

Author determines the impact of human activity on the Majove Desert adjacent to developing cities. Three suburban-to-rural transects and one control site were established near the city of Ridgecrest. Each transect was rated for ten types of carried
out along each transect. Cumulative impact ratings and the number of ground squirrel captures increased as the edge of development was approached. Discussion of implications of unexpected results. - (SLD)
