The grain size distribution, heavy minerals and percentages of glauconite of the Lower Eocene sediments in the regions of Tielt and Ghent have been examined. The Lower Paniselian Plb seems to belong to the top of the Upper Ypresian Yd, in the region
of Tielt. The same sediments have been found in borings in Ghent. The Lower Paniselian Plc forms the base of the Paniselian in the region of Tielt| its grain-size and mineralogical characteristics seem to stay constant in the two regions.
