Using the case of World War I, this article investigates the expansion of the war from a localized political crisis in Austria–Hungary to a disastrous global scale conflict involving dozens of states. Using social network analysis-based
methodologies to develop measures of context and evaluate our hypothesis, it finds that context had an important impact on states’ war-joining behavior during World War I. An understanding of context that fuses simultaneous embeddedness in network and geographic
space with relational power and the methodology of blockmodeling can be used to explore the diffusion of other wars and even other phenomena across geographically situated actors.

This article examines the extent to which geographical mobility during the transition to adulthood attenuates the perpetuation of residential segregation from Whites among Asians, Blacks and Latinos. Results suggest that residential exposure
exposure among Asian, Black and Latino young adults, but not among Whites themselves. Thus, limited experience with integrated neighbourhoods during adolescence among non-Whites and limited geographical mobility among all young adults help to perpetuate

földje, Szatmár népe, Szatmár élete can be read in two ways, the article begins with an analysis of his underground study as a geographical retreat into conservative-nationalist memory. It concludes by suggesting that his work on Szatmár can be seen
as an integral component of a much larger autobiographical project, one which may have been fuelled in part by fears that he would be seen as accommodating the new regime by publishing a handful of geographical studies during the 1950s. - (AM)

After having been trained at the Sorbonne, this pioneering geographer spent much of his career at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, where he researched the impact of pioneer settlements, the development of coffee production, and the growth
of that city. Drawing on ideas from various social sciences, he explored linkages between coffee producers and the global commodity trade. After returning to France, he taught at several institutions of higher learning including the Sorbonne and a new institute
for Latin American studies in Paris that he headed. His position in French geography was transitional between Vidalian orthodoxy and innovations inspired by social sciences in the second half of the twentieth century. His legacy is both to regional geography

This paper examines work at the Singer factory, Clydebank, in the first half of the twentieth century. It employs a geographical reading of the temporal and spatial strategies of worker control in the factory. Using both archival and oral history
data to critique commonly accepted understandings of factory work, I argue that although the factory space can be read as disciplinary, this must not obscure the resistive spatial and social strategies employed by workers. I draw on Foucault's ideas
