Palaeohydrological studies indicate that the use of sedimentary palaeoclimatic indicators in fluvial sediments still requires rigorous calibration of the climatic controls on the formation of those indicators. An explorative attempt is made using
a simulation experiment with the FLUVER2 model. The simulation illustrates that climate control on the erosion/sedimentation behaviour of a large fluvial system differs along the fluvial system. The simulated system only qualitatively matches the properties
Late Holocene fluvial chronology of Spain : the role of climatic variability and human impact

A database of radiocarbon dates from Late Holocene fluvial environments in Spain was critically analysed in order to obtain a fluvial chronology for this period. The principal types of depositional represented in the record were slackwater flood
deposits, alluvial overbank facies and alluvial channel facies. The sedimentary context of each date was classified in order to identify those samples that specifically dated change in the fluvial environment. The results indicate that in Mediterranean
regions slackwater flood deposits are valuable archives of climatic variability even during periods of increased human impact.

This paper deals with the fluvial evolution of a selection of European rivers during the Middle Weichselian (oxygen isotope stages 2,3 and 4). Two sequences in the Leipzig area and the Niederlausitz in eastern Germany are presented, and the fluvial
of spatio-temporal changes in the fluvial response, the assessment of the system as one of the last untapped regional palaeo-ecological archives, and the chronological integration into the existing climato-stratigraphic models of the southwestern Chad Basin
The Nysa Kłodzka river drainage basin in the Sudeten Mts., SW Poland, preserves a complex late Cainozoic succession that includes 8 fluvial series or terraces and deposits from 2 glacial episodes as well as local volcanic rocks, slope deposits
and loess. Fluvial sedimentation took place during the Late Pliocene and from the early Middle Pleistocene (Cromerian), with a long erosion phase (gap) during the Early Pleistocene. The fluvial pattern remained stable, once formed during the Pliocene
The aim of this study is to provide a better understanding of the morpho-sedimentary response of fluvial systems in subsiding areas non-controlled by tectonically active linear structures. In the Ebro Basin, the mechanisms and processes involved

This study combines the alluvial archive with flood records from bedrock reaches to generate a probability-based 12,000 year record of flooding in south-western USA. Using more than 700 14C-dated fluvial units, the analysis produces a high
Holocene. These differences are primarily the result of selective preservation with alluvial reaches tending to erode during periods characterised by very large floods. The results of this study clearly demonstrate the value of the Holocene fluvialarchive

- (EM)
Fluvial response to climatic and anthropogenic forcing in the Moselle drainage basin (NE France) during historical periods : evidence from OSL dating

The AA. studied 3 main sections in the Moselle valley (northeastern France) by a multi-proxy approach combining morphology, sedimentology, archaeological evidence, historical archives, and dating. The geochronological framework was based
on Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) and validated by independent age control. The first results show that, in contrast with many other fluvial systems, the Moselle and its tributaries did not experience major changes during historical periods. Climatic
changes such as the Little Ice Age had a minor influence on floodplain aggradation (e.g. in grain size or sedimentation rates) in the Moselle valley and were only able to affect the fluvial style. This provides evidence that the reworking of sediments
is the main fluvial process at short timescales in the valley floors of the Moselle catchment. In contrast, anthropogenic forcing seems important not only during recent centuries but also since Roman times.
