Using maps and regression analysis, the AA. sort out the varying turnout rates in elections across the 330 municipalities of Guatemala. An unexpected finding is that turnout covaries with the share of the population that is indigenous
and is inversely related to the size of the municipality. Moreover, high rates of political violence do not dampen turnout. - (DWG)

political space ? Are the result of 2006 local election really distinguishing form previous election, concerning the success of nonparty municipality council lists and mayor candidates ? Are there any essential differences between different regions regarding
According to many commentators, the most important characteristics of 2006 local elections in Slovenia is unexpected success of independent (nonparty) munucipality council lists and mayor candidates. In our research, we wanted to find out
if these statements are correct or are they just the effect of unexpected success of nonparty candidates and municipality council lists in specific municipalities. Three questions are especially important to us : are we really witnessing important shift on Slovenian
representation of nonparty mayors and municipality councilors ? - (IKR)

The paper discusses the contextual effects on voting behaviour. The study examines the existence of contextual effects using spatially very detailed data. When the determinants of election results are studied at the municipal level by spatial
statistical methods, areas of different size can be found in Czechia, in which election results can’t be explained by the composition of voters. Instead it becomes more appropriate to consider the contextual effects impacting on them. Some results

On the basis of the first Local Self-Government Act (1993) and the Establishment of Municipalities and Municipal Boundaries Act (1994), 147 municipalities were created in 1994, till 2002 their number increased to 193. Most of the newly-founded
municipalities were small, including municipalities that did not meet the conditions stipulated by law. Consequently, there have been many discussions on the efficiency of such municipalities and the reasonableness of any further division of Slovenia. In 2005, 95
municipalities had less than 5 000 inhabitants, which is the legally prescribed thereshold for the establishment of a municipality. Therefore, all these municipalities were surveyed and an assessment of their impact on the development of rural areas in Slovenia
