General points on geography
Starting from a general characterization of the theoretical probability-distributions first of all the discrete distributions are dealt with. The continuous distributions will follow in a further article. In the first part of this paper the function
of probability and distribution is demonstrated. The author chooses the probability-distribution as an example for the number of conveyances to a centre. In the following the characteristics (moments) of the discrete probability-distribution are explained. Some
special probability-distributions can be used in geography, these are the zero-one-distribution, the binomial distribution and the Poisson distribution. The author gives some examples for the application of these. The Poisson distribution is recommended

The paper presents an approach for spatial correlation analysis for count variables by comparing their cumulative spatial distributions. Using the concept of LSCDF in classical statistics, it shows that location-specific and its associated K-S-like
statistic, which indicate the magnitude of difference between the two spatial distributions, are highly consistent over different levels of spatial scale. The two LSCDFs can provide a geographic description of the two spatial distributions of population

General points on geography
A method of testing whether or not points on a line are randomly distributed is discussed, and inaccuracies in previous work are pointed out. Difficulties over boundary conditions are resolved and lead to the identification of three cases
: a. The points are on a closed curve. b. The points are on a non-closed curve and include the end points of that curve, and. c. The points are on a non-closed curve but do not (in general) include the end points of the curve. Each of these cases is discussed
with appropriate geographical examples and the mean and variance of the three statistics are given. A brief table of percentage points is included. Final discussion stresses the simplicity and general applicability of this method.

The effects of the Alqueva Dam reservoir on the distribution of steppe birds (before and after flooding) was quantified using point-pattern analysis. Sampling points from the dam biological monitoring program, which included data from winter
and breeding seasons, were used. To quantitatively assess spatial patterns, the point-pattern was tested using a sequence of statistical methods. The results indicate a decline in the absolute abundance of steppe birds in both seasons, but it is more evident
in the breeding season. The results also show an increase in the mean distance between the point surveys, some evidence of a global trend toward the northeast, a decrease of patch values, and a disaggregation of continuous patches.
