- Aerosol deposition off the South African West Coast by Berg winds
- Aerosol ; Atmospheric dynamics ; Coastal environment ; South Africa ; Wind
- Berg winds off the west coast of southern Africa are associated with wintertime subcontinental and ridging anticyclone. Although not frequent, Berg winds are considered the most important atmospheric agents of aerosol transport and deposition off

- Biostratigraphy ; Coastal environment ; Coastal sedimentation ; Diatom ; Earthquake ; Foraminifera ; Holocene ; Indonesia ; Sea level ; Tsunami
- sediments are crucial in this regard because they assist greatly in the identification of particular microfossil assemblages that can be used to distinguish coastal sediments deposited by palaeotsunamis from storm surges and also from those sediments
- Most published interpretations of the stratigraphic data that form the basis for most of the world's Holocene sea-level curves do not consider palaeotsunamis as agents of coastal sedimentation. Biostratigraphic investigations of modern tsunami

- Alluvial soil chronosequence in the inner coastal plain, Central Virginia
- The purpose of this study was to document the chronological sequence of soils present on an extensive series of terrace deposits found along the James River in the Fall Zone of central Virginia. Some of the oldest soils and landforms in the Virginia
- Coastal Plain are present here, along with fluvial terraces that correlate with coastal terraces farther east. The AA. clarify soil-geomorphic relations and provide a basis for allostratigraphic subdivision of the inner Coastal Plain.
- Quaternary shelf deposits and drainage patterns off the French and Belgian coasts in The Quaternary and Tertiary geology of the Southern Bight, North Sea.
- High-resolution reflection seismic data recorded in the Southern Bight of the North Sea have allowed to draw a first general reconstruction of the topography of the base of the Quaternary deposits. The morphological aspects of this erosion surface
- have been confronted with the knowledge of the Quaternary history of the Belgian coastal plain, yielding a hypothesis about the origin of the palaeolandforms and of the present-day offshore morphology. The evolution of this erosion surface is also
- related to the present-day knowledge of the river terraces in the coastal blackland.
Boulder deposits from large waves during the last interglaciation on North Eleuthera Island, Bahamas
- Boulder deposits from large waves during the last interglaciation on North Eleuthera Island, Bahamas
- Aminostratigraphy ; Bahamas ; Coastal dynamics ; Coastal environment ; Erratic boulder ; Interglacial ; Mass movement ; Pleistocene ; Rainstorm ; Stratigraphy ; Tsunami ; Wave
- This paper presents a detailed description of the boulders of north Eleuthera and demonstrates that they were deposited by waves during the Pleistocene. It describes the time and stratigraphy related to boulder emplacement, and evaluates tsunamis
- Coastal depositional landforms in northern Canada in Shorelines and isostasy.

- Litho-and biostratigraphical study of Quaternary deep marine deposits of the Western Belgian coastal plain
- preventing uniform conclusions at this stage of the investigations. A radio-carbon-dating and the pollen analysis showed the presence of boreal sediments at the same depth of probably older (Eemian) deposits). (Les AA.).

- Holocene coastal stratigraphy and the sedimentary development of the Hai Phong area of the Bac Bo Plain (Red River Delta), Vietnam
- Coastal environment ; Delta ; Floodplain ; Holocene ; Intertidal zone ; Mangrove ; Palaeo-environment ; Sea level ; Stratigraphy ; Vietnam
- The AA. interpret the region's coastal depositional environments in the light of a geological model of Holocene environmental change recognising the interacting roles of Holocene sea-level change, alluvial responses to sea-level fluctuation
- , and tidal environment sedimentation. The coastal sediments overlie a Pleistocene land surface, and represent the Holocene marine transgression and regression. Four main sedimentary units are recognised. They represent four dominant inferred depositional
- Quaternary inheritance of coastal landforms, Cobourg Peninsula, Northern Territory
- Australia ; Coastal environment ; Dating ; Inherited features ; Isotope dating ; Northern Territory ; Quaternary ; Shore platform ; Thermoluminescence
- Using radiocarbon, thermoluminescence and uranium/thorium dating techniques, it can be shown that the present coastal morphology on the Cobourg Peninsula is partly inherited from features both deposited and eroded during the late Quaternary. Shore
- Fragilaria blooms in the Holocene of the western coastal plain of Belgium
- Belgium ; Bioindicator;Biological indicator ; Coastal environment ; Diatom ; Holocene ; Palaeo-environment ; Quaternary ; Salinity
- High abundances of Fragilaria in Belgian coastal deposits are described. These occur mainly in slightly brackish salt-marsh sediments, especially in areas with strong fresh-water influence. Species succession within them is influenced

- Coastal environment ; Deglaciation ; Glacial features ; Glacial tectonics ; Model ; Palaeogeography ; Poland ; Stratigraphy
- the glacial dynamics during the Pomeranian phase in NW Poland, for which two different models exist. Investigations have been carried out at coastal cliffs east of Świnoujście, where it is possible to get good lithostratigraphic control of the Weichselian
- deposits and make palaeoenvironmental reconstructions.
- The impact of sea-level rise on coastal salt marshes
- The response of coastal marshes to relative sea-level rise depends upon their ability to maintain their relative elevation through sedimentation. The marshes themselves represent a balance between contemporary depositional and erosional forces
- . Despite increased international efforts to clarify the response of sea level to future climatic change, predictions of the effect on coastal marshes still requires further understanding of local subsidence, sediment supply and vegetation factors.
- Quaternary stratigraphy and paleogeography of the Galilee coastal plain, Israel
- Chronostratigraphy ; Climatic variation ; Coastal plain ; Galilee ; Israel ; Loam ; Palaeogeography ; Palaeosol ; Quaternary ; Sandstone ; Sea level ; Stratigraphy
- The Quaternary deposits in the Galilee coastal plain comprise alternating calcareous sandstone (kurkar), red loam (hamra), dark clay, and uncemented sand. This study deals with the origin of the kurkar, with the correlation between kurkar and hamra
- New evidences on the marine Holocene in the western Belgian coastal plain
- Investigations in the coastal plain yielded new data regarding the stratigraphy of the marine Holocene and the evolution of the plain during the Atlantic and Subboreal periods. Formerly it was accepted that the Calais sediments were deposited during
- one single transgression. However at least four distinct transgressions were found belonging to the Calais Member. By means of 14C datings the development of the Western coastal area is briefly considered.
