- In this paper the term image of the city is used as a kind of the place image , which is an original and broad geographical image concept. This paper takes up the fukaku of the city as an example of the city by the place image. The objectives
- are, firstly, to evaluate cities practically| secondly, to explain the concept of the fukaku of the city which the respondents have obtained from images of the city. - (KA)

- this model fits the size distribution of cities in seven selected urban areas : Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Hakodate, Hachinohe and Morioka areas, excluding the top rank city in each area. The result shows S. M. Guseyn-Zade's model is appropriate for Tokyo
- Problems of positionality in city-regionalization models
- Two urban geographers, writing in a sociological publication, take up the issue of the impact of positionality (the property of having a position in space) in systems of cities and within a particular city. Three specific aspects of positionality
- are discussed: 1. the impact of the positionality of cities on their growth rates| 2. identification of the strongest manifestations of positionality| 3. the preference for particular manifestations of positionality, as exhibited by members of a social
- population having different goals. Both regression analysis and gaming procedures are used in investigating these aspects of positionality, and the results are discussed with reference to sets of cities in the USSR, Poland and East Germany. (Ed.).
