Aeolian deflation ; Aeolian features ; Arid area ; China ; Desertification ; Dune ; Experimentation ; North-Western China ; Wind erosion ; Wind speed
By wind tunnel experiment, the AA. studied the deflation rates of 8 different clastic sediments in the arid regions of China, discussed the sources of aeolian sand and their influence on the development of sand dunes and formation of sand deserts
China ; Climate ; Climatic data ; Climatic trend ; Climatic variability ; Fog ; Global change ; Moisture ; Temperature
Using foggy days and mean temperature and relative humidity data of 602 stations from January to December in the period 1961-2003 in China, the relationship between variations of foggy days and temperature and its possible reason for the 43 years
were analyzed by regression, correlation and contrastive analysis methods. The results induce a decrease in relative humidity when the climate becomes warmer, and eventually brings about a decrease in foggy days in China.
Regional disparity in the changes of agricultural land use intensity in China during 1980-2002
Agricultural land use ; Agricultural retreat ; Agriculture ; China ; Crop ; Land use ; Regional disparities
Based on the cost-benefit data (1980-2002) of farm products and China Agriculture Yearbooks, this paper studies the regional disparity in the changes of the agricultural land use in China from 3 aspects such as the degree of intensity, the sown area
Spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of the fog regions in China
Atmospheric moisture ; China ; Climate ; Climatic data ; Climatic variability ; Fog ; Interannual variability ; Spatial distribution ; Years 1960-69 ; Years 1970-79 ; Years 1980-89 ; Years 1990-99
The spatial distribution and monthly/annual variation of foggy days in China are analyzed based on the monthly mean fog data collected from 604 observational stations for the period 1961-2000. Results show that there are 6 fog regions in China
The emphasis of the research is to analyze the spatial-temporal character of vegetation change and the correlation with climate change, according to vegetation evolvement of West China from 1982 to 2000. Using NDVI data of NOAA-AVHRR
and the temperature and precipitation data of West China, the vegetation activity is discussed by adopting the EOF and REOF decomposed functions.
This study investigated soil loss due to crop harvesting (SLCH) for potato and sugar beet plots on farmer's fields spread over 4 regions in northeast China where harvesting is carried out by hand. The aims are to evaluate the impacts of possible
determining factors, such as soil texture and soil moisture content at harvesting time, on SLCH variability; to estimate the relative importance of SLCH for the total sediment budget in northeast China; to compare 2 harvesting techniques, by hand
Dust storm erosion and its impact on soil carbon and nitrogen losses in northern China
Agricultural practice ; Arid area ; Carbon ; China ; Dust storm ; Nitrogen ; Northern China ; Nutrient ; Soil conservation ; Soil erosion ; Wind erosion
This paper reviews the recent literature concerning dust storm-related soil erosion and its impact on soil C and N losses in northern China. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the area of erosion-affected soils and to estimate
the magnitude of soil C and N losses from farmland affected by dust storm erosion. The results indicate that soil conservation measures along with improved soil fertility management measures should be promoted in dry-land farming areas of northern China.
Spatial and temporal variations and controlling factors of potential evapotranspiration in China : 1956-2000
Annual variation ; China ; Evapotranspiration ; Potential evapotranspiration ; Seasonal variation ; Solar radiation ; Spatial variation ; Water cycle ; Wind speed
Based on the climatic data of 580 stations in China during 1956 and 2000, potential evapotranspiration are calculated using the Penman-Monteith Method. The spatial and temporal distributions of the potential evapotranspiration over China
and the temporal trends of the regional means for 10 major river basins and whole China are analyzed. Through a partial correlation analysis, the major climate factors which affect the temporal change of the potential evapotranspiration are analyzed. Decline
Satellite-derived primary productivity and its spatial and temporal variability in the China seas
China ; Climatic change ; Interannual variability ; Model ; Ocean ; Ocean atmosphere interaction ; Pacific Ocean ; Productivity ; Remote sensing ; Surface temperature
The spatial and temporal variability of primary productivity in the China seas from 2003 to 2005 was estimated using a size-fractionated primary productivity model. Primary productivity estimated from satellite-derived data showed spatial

Northwest China includes Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region, Qinghai Province, Gansu Province, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Shaanxi Province. It is located in the warm-temperate zone and the climate is arid or semi-arid. Precipitation is very
Natural heritage, ecotourism and sustainable development : potentials and pitfalls for China
China ; Ecotourism ; Handbook ; Landscape ecology ; Sustainable development ; Tourism
Tourism in China has developed into a major economic factor. The currently 5% share of tourism in the national GDP is supposed to more then double in the coming decade. Nature tourism will be an important part of the overall tourism product. How
decision-making processes which ensure a fair participation of all stakeholders involved, seem to be able to change the current very destructive course of China's tourism development. - (IfL)
Relationship between large rivers and granite-cored anticlines in the lower Pearl River system, Southeast China : an example of a long-lived drainage pattern
