This paper discusses with the aid of GIS technology the whole trend and spatio-temporal characteristics of arable land losing and land occupation for construction in the coastal area of China over the last decade, analyzes the dominant factors
and mechanisms of land-use change, and attempts to provide some suggestions for the decision-making of optimal land use to promote urban-rural balanced development and new socialist countryside construction in coastal China.
