The AA. describe catenas developed on calcareous moraines of Pinedale and Bull Lake ages at Whikey Basin on the eastern flank of the Wind River Range, Wyoming, in 2 separate valleys. Both catenas in both valleys contain primary carbonates
but there are topographic differences between them. The AA. suggest that differences in catena development mostly result from the differences in slope length between the jakey's Fork and Torrey Creek catenas.

Soil catenas integrate and amplify gravity transfer and differentiation processes of eluviation and illuviation in soil profiles. The AA. quantified differences in these redistribution processes along granitic catenas across an arid to sub-humid
climate gradient in Kruger National Park, South Africa. They measured soil properties in 9 catenas sampled from 3 areas receiving annual rainfall of 470 mm (arid zone), 550 mm (semi-arid zone) and 730 mm (sub-humid zone). As rainfall increased, kaolinite
replaced smectite as the dominant clay mineral in all landscape positions across the catenas. Clay redistribution along catenas was sensitive to climate with the least amount of redistribution occurring in the dry sites and the most occurring in the wet
