Reconstruction du climat de Lisbonne et de Evora entre 1675 et 1715 à partir des différentes sources historiques. Une conclusion intéressante concerne les températures qui ont contribué à descendre au début du XVIIIe siècle alors qu'en Europe
A new climate and water-balance station on the Peninsula Skallingen, South West Jutland
Climatic data ; Denmark ; Jylland ; Meteorology ; Microclimate ; Salt marsh ; Water balance
In March 1997 an automatic climate and water balance station was established on the peninsula Skallingen, 55°30'N, 8°15'E. The data can be retreived by a cellular phone and a modem. The station and selected data are described.
Applied climatology ; Atmospheric pollution ; Heat island ; Impact ; Model ; Precipitation ; Temperature ; Urban climate ; Vegetation
This report on recent work in applied climatology will examine some key areas of urban climatology and meteorology, particularly those concerned with understanding more fully the processes that produce urban climates. Contemporary approaches
to amelioration of urban impacts on local climate, and to improved design of the urban landscape, are also covered.
The hydrological regime of rivers in the light of scenarios of global climatic change
Hydrological processes and water resources in the face of global climate change
This article seeks to achieve 2 aims : - to classify the hydrological regimes of the rivers Rega, Utrata and Soła, representing different climatic and physio-geographical regions of Poland, and - to assess changes in their regimes following
On the role of climate in desertification of the Sahel Belt
Africa ; Agricultural land use ; Arid area ; Climatic variation ; Desertification ; Drought ; Human impact ; Over-grazing ; Sahel
Discussion de l'impact du climat sur la désertification au Sahel. Dans cette zone, le climat peut soit être le seul facteur responsable de la désertification, soit être lié aux activités humaines. Au cours de ces dernières décennies, le taux rapide

Trace-element analysis of the calcareous shells of ostracodes in a sediment core from Farewell Lake provides the first limno-geochemical record for climatic reconstructions in Alaska. When compared with pollen data from the same site, this record
offers new insights into climatic controls over vegetation dynamics during the Holocene.

This progress report on global warming will focus on : the outcome of the Kyoto conference and its significance for future global climate change, and the current state of the global climate system, in particular the surface air temperature record
and its interpretation. The A. will also consider recent work that has a bearing on just how significant current and future global climate warming may be for the planet and for the life which inhabits it.
Response of the central Canadian treeline to recent climatic changes
Biogeography ; Canada ; Climatic variation ; Climatic warming ; Dendrochronology ; Dendrology ; Eighteenth Century ; Global change ; Historical geography ; Nineteenth Century ; Northwest Territories ; Tree line ; Twentieth Century ; Vegetation
Dendrochronology and the analysis of historical records from eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth-century expeditions are used to reconstruct the response of the central Canadian treeline to recent climatic variations and to anticipate
Impact of climate change on water temperature in reservoirs (Sulejów Reservoir case study)
Hydrological processes and water resources in the face of global climate change
Aquatic ecosystem ; Climatic variation ; Climatic warming ; Ecosystem ; Energy balance ; Evaporation ; Global change ; Model ; Poland ; Simulation ; Water temperature
This paper investigates the possible impact of climate change on physical and biological processes in storage reservoirs supplying water for domestic use and industry. As a case study the water temperature and evaporation in Sulejów Reservoir
, Central Poland, will be simulated for a number of climate scenarios. An energy balance model for a non-stratified (or weakly-stratified) lake was applied. Reservoir temperature is shown to be highly sensitive to changes in air temperature.
Interannual to interdecadal variations of the regionalized surface climate of the United States and relationships to generalized flow parameters
Climate oscillation ; Climatic variability ; Climatic variation ; El Niño ; Interannual variability ; Precipitation ; Teleconnection ; Temperature ; United States of America ; Weather type
This analysis attempts to discern primary causes of interannual and interdecadal climate variations for precipitation and temperature regions of the conterminous United States. To determine the causes of the derived climate shifts, correlation
The aim of this study was to analyze the changes of soil surface coverage along a sharp climatic gradient with emphasis on the differences between south and north facing slopes. Wet and a dry scenarios were considered as a framework to evaluate
possible future soil surface cover changes as a result of climate changes.
Studies of geo-ecological processes are being made along climatological transects on similar limestone rocks at different locations across the Mediterranean. The initial objectives were firstly to obtain information on relationships between climate
Distribution of desertification climate types in China was analyzed using Thornthwaite's method on calculating potential evapotranspiration (PE), according to the definition provided by the United Nations Convention, by employing meteorological
and the precipitation map of China respectively. In eastern and northern China, the distribution of climate types is basically acceptable, but for Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau the potential range of desertification is smaller than expected.
The relationship between climate and rock glacier distribution in the Ben Ohau Range, New Zealand

Altitudinal zonation ; Climate ; Glacier ; New Zealand ; Permafrost ; Rock glacier ; South Island ; Spatial variation
This paper aims to identify the climatic boundaries for the formation of talus rock glaciers, debris-covered glaciers, and cirque floor lobes of complex origins. Mapping of fossil and active landforms reveals a zonation within the ben Ohau Range
Modelling the geomorphological impact of climatic variability and extreme events in a semi-arid environment
Arid area ; Badland ; Castilla-La Mancha ; Climatic variability ; Climatic variation ; Desertification ; Ecosystem ; Heavy rain ; Model ; Semi-arid area ; Soil erosion ; Spain
This paper examines the impact of climatic variability on hydrology and vegetation cover using the PATTERN ecosystem model. Significant inter-annual and medium-term variability in the components of the hydrological budget and in vegetation
degradation. In this way, badlands are the relic of past climatic extremes and not necessarilyan indicator of present-day desertification.

Cenozoic climatic change in southern Africa : the evidence from geomorphology, 1967-1996, a personal view
Cenozoic ; Climatic variation ; Geomorphology ; Karst ; Palaeogeography ; South Africa
of karst evidence is stressed. Further evidence should be sought in ecotone sites which respond sensitively to climatic changes. However, the preservation of evidence is often fortuitous so correlation from one region to another is difficult. - (AJC)
