Methods of classifying the atmospheric circulation into pressure patterns or types are reviewed. These classifications are divided into three main categories according to the system of classification used by climatologists. The advantages
and limitations of each classification approach are discussed.
This paper will present global maps of all 4 components of the 1948 Thornwaite climate classification, a long-time wish of J.R. Mather, to whom this paper is dedicated. In addition, a revised Thornwaite-type climate classification is presented
with the intent of providing a more rational climate classification for everyday use in a classroom setting. This classification uses an amended version of the Thornthwaite moisture index.
Most of the mentioned classifications and especially those that cover large areas are based on the personal knowledge of their authors, who do not offer any criteria for their classification. In most of them solely cultural and technological
in the classifications, except in those covering some more restricted areas.―(A. Knapik).
This paper provides an overview of hydromorphological and related classifications of rivers in Slovenia and elsewhere. The Rosgen classification is presented in greater detail; it was used in the study as the basis for developing the first Slovenian
hydromorphological classification. A hydromorphological survey form was designed to classify rivers and used in the office and field survey of hydromorphological variables in the 95 river sections selected in Slovenia. - (L'A.).
The author tries to bring out the components of a pedological classification which could be accepted in the same way as classifications of other natural sciences currently accepted. The data of geochemistry give a classification principle by showing
the fundamental factor and process of pedogenesis types. A definition of higher categories of a classification is given.

An analysis of a range of soil profiles in Zambia and Zimbabwe was subjected to statistical analysis to determine the validity of various soil classifications. The soil groups recognised were mutually exclusive and internally showed a high degree
The concept of sand waves in stream beds is discussed and the principles for their classification examined. The classification divides waves into two grades| the first covers two subdivisions and the second covers six. Each is defined and described

(Cch).
