Late Quaternary environmental changes in the Karoo, South Africa in Geomorphological studies in Southern Africa.
The paper presents an overview of environmental changes during the Quaternary of the Karoo : and examines new palynological evidence from the Nuweveldberg region.
The vegetation changes during the later Quaternary of the Winterberg escarpment area are presented. It is shown that both climatic change and human-induced change have been important influences on the development of plant communities in the region.
A palaeoecological analysis is presented of veil deposits in the Winterberg Mountains of the eastern Cape of southern Africa. The pollen analysis reveals important environmental changes which have occurred during the late Quaternary.
