to greenhouse gas-induced climate change. The bias in the rainfall records to the last 50 years is undermining the ability to identify meaningful scales of variability, and this is where new analyses, based upon the analysis of the drivers of mid-latitude
precipitation, offer much scope. As with the climate change hypothesis, the possibility that the summer 2007 events are a normal but unusual happening cannot yet be dismissed.
