- The two large container ports of Hamburg and Bremen are faced with economic and technical-organisational changes in intercontinental container transport. Their restructuring is governed by an adjustment of infrastructures to changes in transport
- and services. The introduction of containers resulted in spiralling labour productivity, with a loss in jobs. The services offered towards value-added logistics are developed. The functional changes modify economic linkages of ports and regions.
