These studies are realized in the Tisza river basin (E Hungary). Extremely high water levels of the Tisza river over the last few years drew the attention of scientists and the public to the question of efficiency of flood prevention in Hungary
. After a brief overwiev of the history of flood control in the Tisza basin the most important tasks of research and the possible adequate methods of flood control are discussed. - (JS)
