Vistulian and Holocene aeolianactivity, pedostratigraphy and relief evolution in Central Poland
Late Vistulian (= Weichselian) and Holocene aeolian phenomena in central and northern Europe
Two periods of Vistulian aeolianactivity are recognized : 1) Early and Plenivistulian period of aeolian abrasion and 2) Late Vistulian period of aeolian accumulation interrupted by phases of pedogenesis. The Old Holocene period was the period

Major County and northwestern Kingfisher County, are the product of distinct late Holocene climatic conditions, in which periods of dune activity are episodic and accumulation of sediments is relatively rapid.
Seasonal variations of saltation activity on a High Plains saline playa : Yellow Lake, Texas
Aeolian dust ; Aeolian features ; Aeolian transport ; Arid area ; Moisture ; Playa ; Precipitation ; Seasonal variation ; Texas ; United States of America ; Wind
This report is based upon a 4-yr. investigation of activeaeolian processes at Yellow Lake,a saline playa within the Yellow House Basin, northwest of Lubbock, Texas. From December 30, 1998, to january 1, 2003, a fast-response piezoelectric saltation
sensor was used to collect a continuous record of aeolianactivity at a point on the playa surface. Since saltation activity is often associated with dust emissions, the saltation record also provides information regarding seasonal patterns of dust
emissions. This paper summarizes the measured data and examines the influence of climatic factors, such as wind humidity, and precipitation on saltation activity and dust emissions from the Yellow House Basin.
Aeolian blowout dynamics in subarctic Lapland based on decadal levelling investigations
Aeolian deflation ; Aeolian features ; Cold area ; Dune ; Finland ; Lapland ; Subarctic zone ; Vegetation ; Wind erosion
This work examines present-day blowout evolution processes by monitoring the erosion and deposition rates within selected deflation basins. The aim is to better understand the relationship between the present-day rates of aeolianactivity
Changing conditions of aeolian sand deposition during the last deglaciation period
Late Vistulian (= Weichselian) and Holocene aeolian phenomena in central and northern Europe
After the maximum of the last glaciation three main periods of aeolianactivity may be distinguished : at the end of the Late Pleniglacial, in the middle of the Late Glacial (Older Dryas) and at the very end of the Late Glacial (latest part
of the Younger Dryas). These three phases and the respective mode of activity as well as the resulting forms and sediments are compared.
A method for establishing the critical threshold for aeolian transport in the field

. It was found that during periods of activeaeolianactivity, threshold values could be calculated every 5 minutes.
A mathematical expression that relates saltation activity and relative wind strength was reformulated so that threshold may be calculated from measurements of saltation activity and the mean and standard deviation of wind speed. To test the new
Aeolian system responses to global change : challenges of scale, process and temporal integration
Aeolian features ; Aeolian transport ; Arid area ; Coastal environment ; Dune ; Earth surface processes ; Global change ; Methodology ; Model
Aeolian sediment systems are extensive components of the Earth's surface, not just in today's active desert environments, but in coastal locations and as presently stable loess and peri-desert ergs. All these systems are subject to potentially
significant 21st century changes in dynamics due to global warming impacts on atmospheric circulation, sediment moisture and vegetation cover. Since the establishment of modern aeolian science, research has largely taken 2 divergent routes : 1) small-scale
and their potential contribution to the multiscale integrations that are essential for better informed predictions of future global aeolian system dynamics.

The Sahara is the world's largest source of aeolian desert dust, but precise information on specific sources of this material is poor. This paper uses daily data from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) for 1999 to identify source areas
driven by natural factors since they are little affected by anthropogenic activities.

The results are presented of an inquiry set up to make an inventory of the technical facilities currently (1995) available in aeolian geosciences. Although this is only 20 per cent, the major aeolian units did respond. The inquiry consists of 5
Aeolian dust dynamics in agricultural land areas in Lower Saxony, Germany
Aeolian dust ; Aeolian features ; Agricultural practice ; Agropedology ; Cultivated land ; Germany ; Grain size distribution ; Niedersachsen ; Organic materials ; Seasonal variability ; Soil erosion ; Wind erosion
The dynamics of fine aeolian dust emitted from agricultural land was investigated over 15 months near Grönheim, Lower Saxony. This study was unsertaken in the framework of WEELS (Wind Erosion on European Light Soils), an international EU project
focusing on wind erosion in northern Europe. Dust activity in Grönheim is high in spring and autumn, and low to very low during the rest of the year. There is a strong relationship between the periods of tillage and the intensity of dust activity.

Aeolian features ; Aeolian transport ; Australia ; Climatic variation ; Dust storm ; Global change ; Lateglacial ; Quaternary ; Spatial variation
Quantitative estimates are made of the effect of climate change upon dust activity during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), which peaked 18,000 years ago, using present-day measurements of the occurence of dust storms recalculated in the light
Recent stabilization of active sand dunes on the Canadian prairies and relation to recent climate variations
Aeolian features ; Aeolian transport ; Aerial photography ; Canada ; Climatic variability ; Dune ; Geographical information system ; Manitoba ; Plant colonization ; Saskatchewan ; Wind speed
Changes in dune activity were determined from historical aerial photographs at 7 sites with active parabolic dunes in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The methodology developed combines digital image processing and geographical information system (GIS
) analysis to measure changes in dune activity from the aerial photographs, as well as correlation analysis to determine the relation between dune activity and climate variations. Overall, dune activity has been decreasing since the early to mid 1900s

This paper chooses typical land-use types, i.e., cultivated land, wild grassland, drifting sandy land etc., based on the fixed experimental observation and quantitative analysis, to conduct studies on the principles and characteristics of aeolian
activities and measures controlling wind erosion in Daxing District of Beijing. Different land use types result in various degrees of coarse component. There is a significant exponential relation between sediment transport concentration and wind velocity.

This paper documents the morphology and the environmental controls responsible for the formation and evolution of the São Francisco strandplain dune fields with major emphasis on the active dunes. Three morphological provinces in the active coastal
dunes fields are recognized. This study suggests that the aeolian sedimentation is a relatively recent phenomenon at the Quaternary strandplain of the São Francisco River.
