Description :
The aims of this paper are to describe a previously unrecorded suite of tufas from N. W. Australia. Simple geochemical and petrographical data are used to compare the different tufa types with each other and with tufas from other areas, and to investigated the role of organisms in their formation. Finally, the results of this study are used to draw some general conclusions on the nature and importance of tufas in such tropical semiarid karst areas.
