The aim of this paper is to point out that pollen analysis of a vertical section from a so-called plaggen soil may be of use in tracing the consecutive events known from the agricultural history of the area. For such a study, however, a reference pollen diagram constructed from an adjacent and synchronous terrigene deposit is indispensable. In this case, the AA. study a small isolated peat occurrence located 600 m E. of a plaggen soil, the Posteles.
