The A. relates socio-economic developments to income data as a backdrop for the analysis of actual and perceived changes in the structure of neighbourhoods. This perception corresponds to the processes of social upgrading and downgrading. Changes in the physical structure are only weakly associated with social processes. The controlled housing market seems to explain much of the mismatch.
