The introduction and diffusion of the African honeybee in South America

Auteur :
KENT, R. B.

Description :
The accidental release of the African honeybee soon after its introduction to Brazil in 1957 led to hybridization with other domestic bees. Its aggressive behavior, competitive advantage on resource utilization and greater reproductive capacity have favored its spread north of 35 deg. S latitude except at high altitudes. The A. calculates the rate of spread since 1957, useful for those concerned with its imminent invasion of subtropical North America. - (DWG)
