Edaphic limitation of a brazilian rainforest palm : the role of energy allocation and competition for sunlight

In the Atlantic Coastal Forest Biome of eastern Bahia, the piassava palm (Attalea funifera) inhabits coastal podzolic soils but not nearby latosols. This paper examines the role of changing edaphic conditions and access to sunlight in the restriction of this species to tropical podzols.
