The importance of effective atmospheric management was again emphasized during 1990 in the UK by the wide range of meteorological events both of an atmospheric and commercial nature. The gales of January and February, so soon after the infamous storm of October 1987, once more rocked the insurance industry. In April the UK Meteorological Office became an agency and set up a new commercial services section.
