Description :
The earth's seasonal cycle of insolation, determined by orbital geometry, governs the seasonal cycle of surface temperature. The insolation is zonally symmetric, but the asymmetric land-sea distribution results in a seasonal temperature cycle with distinct zonal asymmetries. This geographical filtering of the seasonal insolation is of interest in paleoclimate studies because perturbations in insolation, caused by variations in earth's orbital configuration, have been linked to climate fluctuations.
