Lacustrine sedimentation in a semiarid alpine setting : an example from Ladakh, northwestern Himalaya

Description :
The depositional record of this 200 m thick succession reveals a complex interplay between biologically and chemically dominated sedimentation within the lake and pulses of coarse clastic detritus that punctuate the fine-grained sequences along the margins of the former lake. These successions are interpreted as representing a predominantly dry late Pleistocene climate in which occasional intense storms flushed colluvial debris into the former lake.
