Late Quaternary vegetation and climate of the Sahel

After a summary of the modern pollen spectra from Sahelian sites, the A. reviews in the main section of the paper, results from pollen analyses of late Pleistocene and Holocene sediments, including new data from the western Sahel. A summary of the important evidence from relict vegetation is included, and the article concludes with an assessment of the paleoenvironmental implications.
