Precipitation at Zriba village (NE-Tunisia)―Was Segermes a part of the « granary of Rome »?

Auteur :
MORCH, H.

Description :
In this article, the distribution and variability of the precipitation at Zriba village, close to the Roman settlement Segermes, will be analyzed as well as the frequency of drought. Zriba is located at the economic-ecological limit for commercial cereal cultivation. On the assumption that the climate in Roman times was similar to that of today, the basic agricultural conditions during the Roman era will be considered, although it is doubtful whether Segermes acted as a supplier of wheat to Rome.
