The first objective of this study is to determine whether one-dimensional mathematical modelling can accurately predict the observed thaw profile in the nearshore zone of a retreating coast. The second objective is to use this model to document the nature and rates of processes that may have been associated with the degradation of permafrost further offshore in the Beaufort Sea.
