Description :
The Lanzhou region of Gansu Province forms the focus of this study. Here, human activity is expanding into a very sensitive environment resulting in increasing risks of the occurence of geohazards associated with loess failure. The failure of loess deposits manifests itself in a number of precesses including surface and sub-surface erosion, collapse, hydroconsolidation and mass movement. This situation gives rise to significant concerns about prospects for sustainable development in the region. This is aimed to get a better understanding of the underlying geotechnical parameters of the material that determines these processes. - (AGD)
