This article addresses the trends, problems and opportunities attending the cultivation and marketing of medicinal and spice plants in Germany. The years since 1993 have seen an expansion in their cultivation to a current area of some 10,000 hectares. Using the present state of cultivation and the developments over the last few years as his basis, the A. examines the measures required to maintain the continued stable growth of these specialist crops. - (MT)
