Western North Carolina : culture hearth of bluegrass music
Auteur :CARNEY, G.
Description :
Western North Carolina is identified as the cultural hearth (source area) of bluegrass music. There local musicians and bands created the bluegrass sound and a local music infrastructure emerged that supported innovation and established outlets for performances. Bluegrass sound is defined, and many mountain musicians and piedmont pickers and bands of the 20th century in region are discussed. Social institutions (homes, churches, fiddle contests, etc.) that supported the spread of bluegrass are addressed. - (SLD)
