Where the bodies lie : sense of place and police procedurals
Auteur :HAUSLADEN, G.
Description :
Study examines one subgenre of mystery literature - the police procedural - to convey a sense of place. It is shown that place is an essential ingredient in the commission, discovery, and resolution of crime. A. uses a number of police procedurals to illustrate how four basic literary devices convey a sense of place : narrative description, dialogue, iconography, and attention to detail. Although the police procedural remains underutilized by academics as a source of literary geography, it is a major source of the reading public's sense of place. - (SLD)
