Those benevolent boosters : spatial patterns of Kiwanis membership in the United States

Auteur :
WIKLE, T.

Description :
Paper begins with a history and description of service clubs in the United States, with special attention to Kiwanis. A. seeks to identify regions where Kiwanis membership is strong or weak and then to develop a socioeconomic profile of counties to explain the pattern. Analysis of membership was done via zip code aggregation of members and clubs to the county level as of March 1997. High location quotient (LQ) counties are mostly rural and had experienced recent losses in population and retail sales (as in northern Midwest and Wyoming and Montana). Low LQ counties are in urbanized states such as Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Maryland. - (SLD)
