Toda dairy sites apart from hamlets
South Asian sacred places. Special issue
Auteur :NOBLE, W.
Description :
The Todas are a scheduled tribe of India, occupying highlands around the upper Nilgiris. They were formerly entirely dependent on buffaloes and had invented the most complicated dairy rituals ever devised. The Todas have recently switched to commercial farming, maintaining only a few sacred dairy sites. This allowed A. to examine other such sites and to establish the past existence of two entirely separate dairy operations in three of the highest ti grade dairy sites. - (SLD)
