Mosque architecture in Bangladesh : the archetype and its changing morphology

South Asian sacred places. Special issue

Auteurs :
ISLAM, I.
NOBLE, A.

Description :
Bangladesh has a rich heritage from two ancient religions, Hinduism and Buddhism. When Muslims invaded India, they brought a different architecture that was modified by local customs, climate, materials, and technology. Mosques in Bangladesh have a unique style, which has also changed over time. The four time periods of analysis are : the pre-Mogul or Sultanate, the Mogul, the British colonial, and the contemporary. The figures are floor plans and sketches that illustrate the different period styles. - (SLD)
