Boom town in transition ? Development process and urban structure of Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

Auteurs :
BRAUMANN, V.
STADEL, C.

Description :
Founded in 1884, Ushuaia, the City at the end of the World, has witnessed a number of distinct phases in its life. As the 20th century closed, Ushuaia's position as a boom city was being eroded by a declining importance of its strategic position, an exodus of key industries, and a reduction in immigration. However, its proximity to Antarctica and an emerging tourism industry may offer promise for the future. - (SLD)
