Magnitude and frequency in geomorphology

Description :
The parameters of frequency and magnitude and their relationship provide only a partial explanation of episodic process behaviour. Full characterization of episodic processes from a geomorphic perspective should include, initiating and ending thresholds, duration, and areal extent of process activity. It is useful to view process relationships from both a geomechanical and behavioural perspective. It is proposed that the stress/ resistance/strain relationship can be represented by corresponding behavioural concepts of potency, susceptibility and occurrence, modified by the operation of ambient filters.
