The paper primarily investigates the extent to which market access affects the use of material and service inputs ; and how these in turn affect agricultural productivity. A further step is taken to compare small and large farmers in terms of the distribution of these market generated efficiency gains. Data are generated from 100 farmers in Machakos District in the eastern province of Kenya to investigate the above relationships as a case study. - (L'A.).
