Social-ecological disasters are considered from ethnic-cultural positions. It is suggested to classify disasters into light ones, when all the negative consequences for territorial population and economy complexes (TPEC) or for the ethnos are reversible, heavy, leading to degeneration of the TPEC or the ethnos, and destructive ones. Using the ideas of N.F. Reimers, P.A. Sorokin and others, it is shown that the heavy and destructive disasters are characteristic to TPEC and ethnos types with military-trade type of economy, appeared about 5 thousands years ago.
